About
All about The Black Keys
Formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001, The Black Keys consist of singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. The Black Keys have been called ‘rock royalty’ by the Associated Press and ‘one of the best rock'n'roll bands on the planet’ by Uncut. After starting out playing small clubs, the band went on to sell out arena tours and released eleven studio albums: debut The Big Come Up (2002), followed by Thickfreakness (2003) and Rubber Factory (2004), as well as releases on Nonesuch Records: Magic Potion (2006), Attack & Release (2008), Brothers (2010), El Camino (2011), Turn Blue (2014), ‘Let's Rock’ (2019), Delta Kream (2021) and Dropout Boogie (2022). The band has won six Grammy Awards and a BRIT and has performed at festivals in North America, South America, Mexico, Australia and Europe.
The album Ohio Players (Trophy Edition) was recently released on Nonesuch/Warner Records. This deluxe edition of the band's 12th studio album contains the new single ‘Mi Tormenta’ feat. DannyLux. Other special guests on the Trophy Edition's new tracks, in addition to numerous collaborations on the Ohio Players' original songs, include Alice Cooper and Beck. On ‘Mi Tormenta’ singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and DannyLux both sing in Spanish, for the first time on a Black Keys record.
With the release of Ohio Players in April 2024, the Black Keys secured the number one spot on the rock and alternative album charts. The album also reached the number 5 position for the week on both Billboard's Top Rock Albums Chart and Top Alternative Albums Chart and secured the number 4 spot on the Overall Current Album Sales. Ohio Players earned the Black Keys their sixth consecutive top 20 in the UK and also entered the top 20 in other international markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and others.
The album, which was inspired by the recent ‘record hang’ parties of band members Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, received praise from Rolling Stone, who stated, ‘Whether they set their retro-rock machine in Memphis in the 1960s, the Midwest in the 1970s, or Manchester, England, and Los Angeles in the 1990s, it all flows together like a wonderfully rhythmic DJ set,’ calling the album ‘probably the sharpest collection of songs the Keys have made. Ohio Players marked an exciting departure from previous Black Keys releases, as the album introduces new and fresh influences, while maintaining the widely loved sound for which the duo is best known. With an emphasis on collaboration, the album features contributions from friends and colleagues, including Beck, Noel Gallagher, Dan ‘The Automator’ Nakamura, Greg Kurstin, Juicy J, Lil Noid and others.
