About
Kings of Convenience are a Norwegian indie folk duo consisting of Eirik Glambek Bøe (vocals, guitar, drums, piano) and Erlend Øye (guitar, piano, drums/percussion, backing vocals).
In 1992, Eirik and Erlend formed their first band called Skog, releasing the EP Tom Tids Tale. Once the group broke up, in 1998 Eirik Glambek Bøe and Erlend Øye decided to get back together under the name Kings of Convenience. The band's name was inspired by the fact that the two artists were in London with nothing more than two acoustic guitars.
Their debut album entitled Kings of Convenience was released in 2000, aimed only at the US and Canadian markets, while their worldwide debut came the following year with the highly successful album Quiet Is the New Loud.
A remix album of tracks from Quiet Is the New Loud, entitled Versus, was also released in 2001. After a break of three years, they released their third studio album in 2004 entitled Riot on an Empty Street, which was even more successful than the previous album thanks to an evolution in the arrangements and a greater variety of instruments. The stand-out singles are Misread and I'd Rather Dance with You.
In 2009, five years after the previous album, the album Declaration of Dependence was released, which contains the hits Mrs. Cold and Boat Behind. The last Kings of Convenience album is Peace or Love, released in 2021.
